CFBA Blog Tour Featuring: SCOOP

Scoop is the first book in Rene Gutteridge's new series called the "Occupational Hazards." The series' main characters are the seven siblings of the Hazard family (formerly a clown family--until the parents died in a freak accident).

The very first chapter provides just enough strange background to ensure the reader is hooked . . .

Mack sighed, looking exhausted. "Mr. Stewart, they were not murdered. It was just an unfortunate incident."

"Incident? Accident? What?"

Mack glanced at Hayden. She looked desperate for relief, and Hayden smiled a little, hoping to assure her.

"Well?" Mr. Stewart asked.

"Look, we don't really understand it ourselves," Mack finally said, "but it boils down to an overly ambitious serenading guitar player, a hundred-foot extension cord, and a rack of mood lighting." Mack shook Mr. Stewart's had while his jaw dropped a little. "We'll talk soon."

Hayden Hazard has led a sheltered home-schooled life up until this point--that is if you can call being a clown family "sheltered." She braves and learns about the real world when she is hired at a local tv news station as assistant to the producer.

Scoop reveals a thoughtful and amusing look at the workings of an evening news show. Hayden provides moral, innocent insight, and humorous viewpoint and is one person in the midst of an engagingly eccentric crew who has no qualms about bringing her faith into every aspect of the desperate-for-ratings news show.

Day 2: Landon Snow and the Island of Arcanum

The third of the Landon Snow series, Island of Arcanum opens with Landon concentrating on his team's football game. Strangely (though not if you know Landon to whom these things seem to happen) he looks up to see that he is surrounded by animals! And, not just ‘dog & cat’ kinds of animals—wild animals. Has the ref actually become a zebra? Coach Huddle a big hairy gorilla? and oh my goodness, the opposing team has become a bunch of snarling and growling bears and wolves! I'm thinking someone is in great need of a holiday. . .

Well, Landon eagerly anticipates the holiday with his family in Button Up, Minnesota. The suspense builds as Landon eagerly considers the possibilities:

"Which meant, of course, that Landon was hoping to sneak into the Button Up Library—the BUL—in the middle of the night, perhaps with Holly tagging along. This time, however, he would make her promise—cross her heart and hope to die—that she would not follow any slinking shadows into dark corners or down creepy stairways."

Of course Landon finds himself embroiled in another adventure! Along with Bridget and Holly—his sisters, Landon is joined by his old friends: Melech the horse, Vates the poet/ prophet, Ditty, his special “Odd” friend and the rest of the Odds. To find out more about Landon’s friends, check the “Family & Friends page" on the Landon Snow website—it really is a “magical” little find!

Island of Arcanum is an enchanting book for young readers. It is on the must-have Christmas list for our daughter. In fact, I found that you can purchase a complete set of the 3 Landon Snow books at Christian Books!

R.K. Mortenson has another successful book in the Landon Snow series. Landon Snow and the Island of Arcanum was released last month (October 2006) by Barbour Books. Island is the 3rd in the Landon Snow series, and by all accounts, Mortenson's best to date!

Landon Snow finds himself on a wild adventure at sea. When a huge, ark-like vessel emerges, Landon-and his sisters-join a quest to find the Island of Arcanum, where the animals of Wonderwood are imprisoned. With the help of his old friends-a horse named Melech, elfish valley folk, a girl named Ditty, and the poet/prophet Vates-Landon seeks to unlock the island's dark secrets and escape with the animals. But he must battle storms and the villainous Arcans-pirates who hoard animals as treasure. Will Landon ever make it back to Wonderwood alive?

The Newest Novel of Siri L. Mitchell

Posted by PicasaThe Cubicle Next Door
Siri L. Mitchell

Ms Mitchell is the author of Something Beyond the Sky, Chateau of Echoes, Kissing Adrien . . . and now, her latest novel: The Cubicle Next Door. This edgy, contemporary, romance takes place at the United States Air Force Academy and in the beautiful city of Colorado Springs.

From the Back Cover: What if God has more planned for your life than you do?

Jackie Harrison is a civilian who loves her job at the U.S. Air Force Academy. That is, until she is forced to divide her office into cubicles and share the space with a new history instructor, Lt. Col. Joseph Gallagher. A charmer in a flight suit, Joe wants to explore both Colorado and a growing relationship with his new cubicle mate. The office was bad enough, but Jackie’s beside herself when Joe shows up in her home and church, even turning her grandmother’s weekly bridge game into poker night!

Jackie goes online to vent, but she eventually finds herself admitting her conflicted feelings about this office neighbor who drives her crazy and makes her heart flutter. But when her blog—The Cubicle Next Door—is featured on TV, everyone begins to read it, including Joe. Will he figure out the anonymous confessions and frustrations are written about him? And how will Jackie ever express her heart offline?

Excerpt from Chapter 1:

“So what do you think, Jackie?”

What do I think? Funny Joe should ask me that. He’s just finished reading my blog. He’s just quoted me to myself. Or is it myself to me? Do I sound surreal, as if I’m living in parallel universes?

I am!

The blog—my blog—is all about Joe. And other topics that
make me want to scream. But the clever thing is, I’m anonymous. When I’m blogging.

I’m Jackie, Joe’s cubicle-mate when I’m not.

And that’s the problem.

Joe is asking Jackie (me) what I think about the
Mystery Blogger (also me). And since I don’t want Joe to know the blog is all about me and what I think of him, I can’t tell him what I think about me.

My brain is starting to short circuit.

So if I can’t tell him what I think about me, I certainly can’t tell him what I think about him, so I’m going to have to pretend not to be me. Not me myself and not me The Cubicle Next Door Blogger—TCND to my fans.

I have fans!

If I were clever I’d say something like, “Look!” and point behind him and then duck out of the room when he turned around to look.

But there’s so much computer equipment stacked around my desk and so many cables snaking around the floor that I’d
break my neck if I tried to run away. So that option is out.

I could try pretending I didn’t hear him. “What?”

“SUVs. So what do you think about them?”

But then we’d basically end up back where we started.

So how did I get myself into this mess?

It was all Joe’s fault.
